How this plan is built
The timetable works backwards from each exam date, prioritizing subjects that are harder and more urgent. Here's the algorithm:
- Define the window. Find the span from today to your last exam date, excluding all days off.
- Identify eligible subjects each day. A subject is eligible only if its exam has not yet passed.
- Allocate hours daily. Split each day's available study hours across eligible subjects. Each subject gets a share proportional to its weight (based on difficulty) divided by its days remaining until exam. This means a shaky subject with an exam coming up next week claims more hours than a solid subject with an exam two months away.
- Round and distribute remainder. Round each allocation to the nearest 0.5 hours. Give any rounding remainder to the highest-weight eligible subject of the day.
- Reserve review days. The last study day before each exam becomes a 100% review session for that subject only.
Spacing your revision
Research on memory and learning shows that spreading study across multiple sessions over time, rather than cramming all at once, leads to stronger, longer-lasting recall. This pattern is called the spacing effect or distributed practice. A timetable like this one builds spacing into your plan automatically: each subject appears on multiple days, with gaps in between. Those gaps allow your memory to consolidate what you've learned before the next session. The result is less last-minute panic and more reliable exam performance.

When the plan does not fit
If the timetable shows a red verdict, your available study time is too tight for the exams you've listed. This is honest information. Cramming is not a solution, but a few practical options exist:
- Increase daily study hours. Could you find one extra hour each day? Even 0.5 more hours per day adds up.
- Reduce days off. If your schedule allows, study on a day you'd marked off. Even one day can ease the pressure.
- Lower difficulty estimates. Be honest: are all subjects truly "shaky"? Solid topics can be reviewed faster, freeing time for weaker areas.
- Check exam dates. If two exams are very close, confirm with your department that the schedule is firm. Sometimes dates shift.
- Prioritize by weight. If you must choose where to study, focus on subjects that carry more grade weight or that have an exam sooner.

Frequently asked questions
What does "difficulty" mean?
Difficulty reflects how well you know the material right now. Shaky means you haven't mastered it yet and need more study time. Okay means you understand most of it but want to consolidate knowledge. Solid means you're confident in the material and mainly need to review and practice exam questions. These ratings are just for you. They help the planner decide where to focus your available hours.
Why do exams closer to today dominate the plan?
Because you have less time to study for them. If an exam is two weeks away and another is eight weeks away, you must prioritize the urgent one, since you can spread study for the distant exam across more weeks. The algorithm balances this automatically: a shaky subject due in five days will claim more daily hours than a shaky subject due in fifty days, simply because fifty days gives you more total study time anyway.
Can I edit the plan after I generate it?
This planner produces a recommendation. You can and should adjust it if it conflicts with your real commitments: a scheduled meeting, a work shift, or an unexpected deadline. The timetable is a framework, not a prison. Use it to see your week in one view, then make strategic edits where life happens.
What if I have zero days between now and an exam?
The planner will flag it in red. If an exam is today or tomorrow and you haven't prepared, do what you can in the hours remaining: focus on high-weight topics, review key concepts, and get sleep before the exam. Damage control beats no control. Next time, start planning sooner.
How do I print a readable timetable?
Click the "Print timetable" button or use your browser's File > Print menu. The page includes a print stylesheet that hides the form and shows only the schedule, fitting it neatly on one or two pages. You can save as PDF too.
Is my data saved?
Yes. Everything you enter is saved to your browser's local storage: subjects, dates, difficulty, and the generated timetable. If you close the tab and come back later, your plan is still there. The data never leaves your device and is not uploaded anywhere.
