Enhanced vs. Legacy: What Changed and Which Applies to You
The ACT introduced the Enhanced format in 2025. The main change is in how the superscore composite is calculated.
Enhanced ACT (April 2025 online onward)
Composite formula: (English + Math + Reading) ÷ 3
Science role: No longer counted in the superscore composite. It remains as a separate section and combines with Math for the STEM score.
Legacy ACT (all earlier dates)
Composite formula: (English + Math + Reading + Science) ÷ 4
Science role: Full weight in the composite score, same as other sections.

Does My College Superscore?
Not every college accepts the ACT superscore. Some institutions only consider your highest single-sitting composite score, regardless of your performance across multiple dates.
What to do: Visit your target colleges' official admissions websites and search for "ACT superscore policy" or "test score requirements." Their testing page will tell you whether they superscore, and if so, which scores they consider.

Here's a real example of how the superscore calculator combines your best scores.
Scenario: Student takes the ACT three times (Enhanced format)
Sitting 1 (April 2025): English 32, Math 28, Reading 30, Science 31
Sitting 2 (June 2025): English 30, Math 32, Reading 31, Science 29
Sitting 3 (July 2025): English 33, Math 31, Reading 32, Science 30

Calculation: (33 + 32 + 32) ÷ 3 = 97 ÷ 3 = 32.33 → rounded to 32

Note: Science scores are not included in the Enhanced ACT superscore composite, but they are still reported on the student's score record and used for STEM-focused programs.

What is an ACT superscore?
An ACT superscore is calculated by taking your best section scores across all of your ACT test dates and combining them into one composite score. This means you can take the highest English score from one date, the highest Math from another date, and so on.
Does the ACT superscore include the science section?
It depends on which test format you took. For the Enhanced ACT (April 2025 online and September 2025 paper onward), the superscore uses only English, Math, and Reading. Science is excluded from the composite. For the Legacy ACT, the superscore includes all four sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science.
How is the ACT superscore rounded?
The ACT superscore is rounded to the nearest whole number using standard rounding rules: 0.5 and above rounds up. For example, 30.5 rounds to 31, and 30.4 rounds to 30.
Can I combine scores from different test dates?
Yes. Your superscore takes your best section scores from any test date and combines them. You might use your highest English from one date, Math from another, and Reading from a third date, all in the same superscore.
Do all colleges superscore the ACT?
No. Not every college superscores the ACT. Some use only your highest single-sitting composite score. It's important to check your target colleges' admissions websites to see whether they superscore, as policies vary by institution.
What happens if I don't enter a science section score?
If you leave science blank in all your sittings, the calculator will use the formula for whichever ACT format you took. In Enhanced mode, it calculates using only English, Math, and Reading. In Legacy mode, a science score is required for a valid composite calculation.
