Why students get delayed
Graduation delays happen for predictable reasons. Here are the most common ones:
- Missed application-to-graduate deadline. Most universities require you to formally apply or petition to graduate by a published date. This is not automatic. If you miss the deadline, your degree may not be conferred until the next term.
- Unmet general-education requirement discovered late. A missing course, a failed exam, or an incomplete grade in a GE requirement surfaces in month nine when it's too late to register for the course. Check your degree audit early and often.
- Unpaid hold from the library, registrar, or student accounts. Library books not returned, an outstanding tuition balance, or a parking fine can prevent your diploma from being released and your transcript from being sent.
