Every degree program differs by institution and major. This calculator is a client-side scratchpad—cross-check your numbers against your official degree audit from your registrar or advisor before relying on them for graduation decisions.
How to fill it in
Category name: Start with the defaults (Major, General Education, Electives, Capstone) but rename or add rows for your own degree structure. Add a Minor row, or split major requirements into separate tracks.
Credits required: The total credits you must complete in that category, according to your degree audit.
Credits completed: The credits you have already finished in that category, as of your last transcript or degree audit.
The tool will calculate your remaining credits for each row and total at the bottom. A horizontal progress bar shows how close you are to zero remaining credits. Everything saves to your browser automatically.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between this tool and the graduation checklist?
The graduation checklist is a yes-or-no task tracker (apply to graduate, clear holds, order regalia, etc.). This tool is a numeric calculator for credit hours only. It does not track tasks or deadlines. Use the checklist to manage the administrative steps, and use this tracker to keep an eye on your remaining coursework.
How do I know if I am counting credits correctly?
Your official degree audit from your registrar or graduate school is the source of truth. Run a fresh degree audit every term—requirements can change, and your transcript may show completed credits differently than you expect. Always verify your own numbers against that official document before making graduation decisions.
Can I add more categories, like a minor?
Yes. Click the Add category button to create new rows. Rename any row to match your degree structure. You can have as many categories as you need—major, minor, concentration, electives, capstone, thesis, or any custom label.
What if I have transfer credits or grades that don't count toward credit hours?
Only count credits that your registrar officially recognizes on your transcript as counting toward your degree. Some courses may be graded but not count as degree progress (remedial work, pass/fail audit courses, failed grades). Check your degree audit—it will only count the credits that officially count. Enter those numbers here.
Can my institution have different credit values per course?
Yes. Your degree audit will show the exact credit value of each course. When filling in category totals, add up the credit hours as shown on your transcript. Some courses are 1 credit, some 3, some 4. The degree audit totals already account for that mix.
Does this tool talk to my school's system?
No. This is a client-side calculator that runs only in your browser. It does not connect to your school's registrar, your degree audit, or any external system. You enter your own numbers from your degree audit, and it stores them locally on your device. No data is sent anywhere.
